Jan Fabre (1958-)

A few sculptures.

Jan Fabre's art strikes me as of varied level. However, his scultpures are of the highest quality. Not only did he have the amazing idea of wrapping marble columns in fresh ham, he has consistently produced sculptures that resist the test of time better in many ways. Since images of his artwork are less easy to find, and may be difficult to piece together into an impressive whole on the internet, I gathered (only) a few representative photographs. One must however try to see as many of his scattered pieces with one's own eyes to become convinced of the talents of this charlatan. The traditional fascination with death and insects takes on beautiful forms in the hands of this sculptor.

(Jan Fabre had work in the FIAC art fair in Paris in 2004.)
