(A review of a place:) The FIAC (International Fair for Contemporary Art) (FIAC (official site)) A discussion of the FIAC as a forum for selling contemporary art, and for visiting galleries. The Fiac is a contemporary art fair that takes place in the fall every year in Paris (usually in the beginning of October). Many international galleries (mostly from Europe but also some from Japan and the USA) are represented and put their best and most expensive artwork on display. Some attract attention with live performances or creations. The high entrance fee is painful to the wallet, but makes for a more agreeable setting once you're in: still the fair is crowded. The forum is ideal for getting a sense for what is actually being created, or rather sold at this point in time, and for the fierce competition between galleries and artists. Also, the looks of the visitors of the fair are a treat by themselves. Enjoy ! Copyright 2005, by Jan Troost |
