A discussion of Paris Photo as a forum for contemporary photography.

Paris Photo is a contemporary photography fair that takes place in Paris in the fall (usually in the second half of november). Compared to the Fiac Paris Photo is less daring. While both abound in estheticism, at Paris Photo the tendency to reduce contemporary photography to beautiful pictures is particularly disturbing. Nevertheless, amidst the overkill of beauty, one can find excellent galleries that present interesting and very contemporary ways of implementing photography to produce contemporary art. If the visitor is not daunted by commercialism, he may find gems of the whole of twentieth century photographic art in the halls of the Louvre's Carrousel, the present home to Paris Photo.
