The Pinacotheque (official site)

A review of the Pinacotheque as a site for contemporary art.

The Pinacotheque is located on the Madeleine square in the center of Paris. (Don't forget to visit the Art Nouveau restrooms near the Madeleine if you decide to go.) It opened definitively on its present grand location in 2007.

It seems to take on a mission of presenting very established contemporary artists. It may also present satelite shows of smaller gods, but be prepared to pay extra to see them.

The first exhibition was dedicated to Roy Lichtenstein, and featured many maquettes and paintings, as well as a video and sculptures. The space was crammed with goodies, and especially the fact that works were shown in various degrees of completion gave an interesting originality to the exhibition.

When exiting, you are gently guided towards the commercial surrounding of the museum shop.
